Data enrichment adds context to what a customer gives you. An application form contains only what the applicant chose to type: a name, an email, a phone number, an address. Enrichment takes those data points and looks them up against outside sources, returning intelligence the form itself does not carry, such as how old a phone number is, whether an email domain is disposable, or whether an address has ever been tied to that name.

It is a workhorse of onboarding and fraud decisioning. On its own, a submitted application is thin and easy to fake, because a fraudster can type anything into a box. Fraudsters control what goes on the form, so the form alone reveals almost nothing. Enrichment is how a firm sees past the submitted fields to the history behind them: a number only days old, a disposable email domain, an address with no footprint.
